Job Summary:
Shop Technician is responsible for supporting the various areas of the Bowl and Frame shops. Job activities may include disassembly, repair, reassembly, testing, as found and as repaired (Quality) documentation of industrial centrifuge frames. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined, intuitive and skilled in troubleshooting and repairing machinery using a combination of observation, physical measurements and vibration readings.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Always keep safety of self and others as the highest priority.
  • Dismantle industrial centrifuges and other machines or equipment, using hand tools, specialized machine tools, cranes and power tools.
  • Examine parts for defects, repair and/or replace defective parts where needed.
  • Apply mechanical skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and repair equipment using observation, instrument analysis and physical measurements.
  • Study parts, blueprints, operating procedures, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to repair and remanufacture equipment.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
  • Exchange technical information both verbally and in writing with various members of the organization including engineering, customer service, sales and management.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities such as lessons learned sessions, training and other process improvement sessions.
  • Represent Separators in alignment with the Separators Way.
  • Track time working on job orders by logging onto job in Shop Floor Manager.
  • Maintain a neat, organized and safe work environment.
  • Safely operate cranes, forklift and other industrial equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Always represent Separators Inc. in a professional and courteous manner.

Requirements & Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Vocational school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years of previous relevant experience in an industry where vibration management is essential such as industrial centrifuge repair, auto body repair, engine maintenance, rotational equipment repair, etc.
  • Self-Starter, Ability to work independently under general supervision
  • Perform the arithmetic functions such as add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
  • Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills with multitasking ability.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic understanding of specifications, blueprints, manuals and mechanical drawings.
  • General understanding of analytical methods.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements.
  • Utilize complex problem-solving techniques and critical thinking in support of assignments.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require manual dexterity and physical endurance, such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and for extended periods.
  • Basic skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, TEAMS, etc.)
  • Knowledge of metal properties and other material, preferred
  • Previous experience with tig welding, machining, remanufacturing processes and 3-phase power, preferred

Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly stand and walk on concrete shop floors for extended periods; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and twisting while working around/inside equipment.
  • Frequently use hands for grasping, pinching, and manipulating small parts/fasteners; sustained manual dexterity to use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull parts and tools; regularly lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation; team lift or use hoists/cranes/forklifts for heavier components.
  • Occasional overhead reaching and work at varying heights (e.g., ladders/platforms) to access assemblies and rigging points, consistent with safety policies.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read gauges, vibration instruments, and documentation; distinguish small defects/wear patterns and verify measurements to tight tolerances.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to work safely around running equipment and to identify abnormal noises; ability to communicate clearly in a shop environment.
  • Ability to safely wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses/face shield, hearing protection, gloves, safety-toe footwear, and respiratory protection when required.
  • Tolerance for typical shop conditions, including exposure to noise, vibration, dust, grease/oils, and temperature variations.
  • Ability to operate or work around material-handling equipment (e.g., overhead cranes, forklifts, lift devices) and powered tools in accordance with training and safety requirements.
  • Ability to maintain focus and physical stamina while performing detailed mechanical work, including repetitive tasks, during a full shift and overtime as needed.
